It's Here!

I can't believe it! My letterpress arrived yesterday afternoon and I can't tell you how very excited I am to get started! I had been so disappointed yesterday when I came home and found a little slip on my door stating that I had missed the first delivery attempt. I even called UPS to make arrangements to go myself and pick it up that day at one of their stores, and wouldn't you know, the very second I hung up the phone, there was a knock, knock, knocking at my door. All I needed to see was that man in brown through my windowpane, and I knew it had finally arrived!

The press was delivered in a few different parts, so my learning journey already began by just putting the press together. I am a complete newbie, so I definitely have a LOT of research ahead of me. Along with my press, I also received a ton of metal type, furniture, and quoins, so I've basically been playing with that and learning as I go. Let me tell you, it's so much easier to learn when the press is right there in front of you instead of just reading about it on the internet. I still have yet to make my first impression, but I'll get there!

What's in a Name?

So, as I wait for my press to arrive, I've been trying to think of a catchy name to brand my letterpress creations with. I came up with a great name last night while lying awake in my bed, but unfortunately, I found that someone else also had the very same great idea. Pooh! Let the brainstorming continue...

Kim & Her Kelsey: A Letterpress Journey

Hi there and welcome to my new blog!
So, I have always had a little place in my heart for letterpress printing, and have been wanting to undergo the challenge of learning the process myself for sometime now. After months of obsessively searching and bidding on sites such as ebay, craigslist, and briarpress.org, I am excited to say that I have finally found a Kelsey 6x10 letterpress to call my own! Hooray! I ended up purchasing my press from a nice man named Louis who restores presses in Rhode Island-- I found him by browsing through the site excelsiorpress.org. I sent him an email, and he replied the same day with news that he had a few presses that he was currently working on that he would be finished with soon! And just like that, my long, tiring search had come to an end!

So now, I'm waiting...anxiously...for my very first press to arrive! I know I have a long journey ahead of me, but am definitely prepared to put in the hard work and energy needed to learn the letterpress process!
